D-JAM the Jesus Freak
Using the God given gifts & talents in this music ministry to strengthen the church, while reaching out to those who don't know Christ as it pertains to a RELATIONSHIP…...young & old! Whoever the Lord would draw to Himself. It's the ANOINTING that breaks yokes! I began rappin' in 1980. I became part of a pop locking group called "Star City Boppers" that performed in Westwood, CA. From 1983 to 1987 I was one of four DJ’s in a crew known as D-JAM Productions. I opened once for Rodney O and Joe Cooley, & Young MC in 1986.
In 1988 I placed in the top 26 out of 2,000 entries in Wherehouse Record's "Summer's Freshest Rapper Contest." There were only 25 runner-ups, but they liked my song so much they created a 26th position!
In 1997 I partnered with long time friend, brother in Christ, and fellow rapper Omar "C-Witt" Ficklin. I was "D-Wize" and as a duo we were known as "Poetical Wizdom". We entered ourselves into Raymond Jarreau's (Al Jarreau's brother) Hollywood Showcase talent show. We went all the way to the finals at the Roosevelt Hotel in Hollywood and got to meet Aaliyah and Brandy. We placed 4th. Omar and I got back together in 1999 and tried again as Coalition of Soul. And we shopped it to Arista Records at the time. From about 2005 to 2007 I was a part of an awesome ministry & church band as a bass player with Relationships In Christ (Pastor Daren L. Banks in Palmdale, CA)...became a Deacon, and was ordained as a Minister.
The talents that endured over time are rappin', playing the bass guitar and love for writing. I feel the need to use every gift and talent God has blessed me with. Several friends have heard my music and asked if there was a CD. So I'm currently working on a 12 song project, tentatively called "Start It Up".
The supportive words of Ice Cube at the 2009 BET Hip Hop Awards were, "To the old people in the house keep doin' your music...as long as you have a tongue you ain't too old to rap...keep doin' your thang". I'm going to do what God would have me do, which is to give Him honor, praise, and glory!
