I started the Billboard Song Contest with former Billboard Magazine publisher Lee Zhito many years ago with the express intent to give songwriters a chance to be heard. Everywhere I went, I heard the same story, "I write songs but I can't seem to get anyone to even give me a chance to submit my material. How can I get heard?" We decided there needed to be a conduit by which songwriters could gain recognition that would give them some viable credibility when approaching publishers or labels. The level of talent we see each year proves we were on the right track. There's a world of talent out there just waiting to be discovered. Our contest facilitates that process by getting the best music we hear every year onto our compilation CD that is distributed to record companies, labels, publishers, managers, agents and other industry figures. Success for many songwriters is only three minutes away.
